nGeorge, Prince of Wales, was prevailed upon to marry his cousin Caroline of Brunswick.
nAs his part of a deal, parliament promised to pay off his enormous debts. 
nHowever, George had already married   Maria Fitzherbert, a Roman Catholic widow; however, the marriage was void in accordance with the terms of the Royal Marriages Act of 1772.
