How did the JPs Respond?
As a direct result of the Blanketeers' March, the Manchester
magistrates decided that they needed a military force of
their own to deal with civil unrest.
They formed the Manchester and Salford Yeomanry - and it
was this ill-trained collection of sabre-wielding shopkeepers
